Backlight bleed and uniformity

Inspect a black screen for corner bleed in low light, then compare gray patterns for uniformity.

Use a dim room. Mild corner glow is common on IPS displays, and acceptable severity is subjective.

How to check screen uniformity

  1. Clean the panel, use a dim room and set the display to a normal viewing brightness.
  2. Inspect the black pattern from your usual position without overexposing a phone-camera photo.
  3. Use dark and mid-gray patterns to look for fixed bright corners, clouding or color tint.
  4. Change your viewing angle: IPS glow often shifts, while backlight bleed usually stays in one place.

Backlight bleed FAQ

How should I test for backlight bleed?

Use a dim room, normal viewing brightness and the fullscreen black pattern. Judge the screen from your normal viewing position rather than from an extreme angle.

Is IPS glow the same as backlight bleed?

No. IPS glow usually changes with viewing angle. Backlight bleed tends to remain fixed near an edge or corner and may be visible during dark content.
